Who I am
Copeland Tax is a trading name of Adam Copeland, Chartered Tax Adviser, of 1 Woodhall Drive, Beverley, HU17 7JF. I am the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact me at enquiries@copelandtax.co.uk or on 07845 294 328.
This website
This is a static information website. It does not host contact forms, and it does not set cookies or run analytics or advertising trackers. Enquiries are made by emailing or telephoning me directly.
The site loads web fonts from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser requests those font files from Google’s servers, and Google may log your IP address and browser details as part of serving that request. Ordinary web server logs kept by the site’s hosting provider may also record IP addresses and request details for security and diagnostic purposes.
Information I collect
When you contact me or engage me for work, I may collect and hold:
- your name and contact details;
- identification and verification documents required by anti‑money‑laundering rules;
- your National Insurance number and Unique Taxpayer Reference;
- financial information relevant to your tax affairs, such as income, expenditure, property, investment and disposal details; and
- correspondence between us.
How I use it and why I’m allowed to
- To provide the services you have asked for — preparing and submitting returns, giving advice and dealing with HMRC on your behalf. This is necessary to perform our contract.
- To meet my legal obligations — including anti‑money‑laundering identity checks and record‑keeping requirements.
- For my legitimate interests — responding to your enquiry, keeping business records, and managing and protecting my practice.
Where I rely on your consent, such as for any marketing updates, you can withdraw it at any time.
Who I share it with
I do not sell your personal data. I may share it with HMRC and other regulatory or government bodies where required, with tax return filing and secure file storage providers acting on my instructions, with my professional advisers, insurers or my professional body, and with any third party you specifically ask me to deal with such as a solicitor, accountant or financial adviser.
How long I keep it
I keep client records for at least six years after our engagement ends, in line with tax and anti‑money‑laundering record‑keeping requirements. Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement are deleted once they are no longer needed.
Security
I take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal data I hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, and in certain circumstances to have data erased or its use restricted, to object to processing, and to receive your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email enquiries@copelandtax.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how I have handled your personal data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page. This version was last updated in August 2026.
